Many people ask me about the programs I use in my writing and artistic endeavors. As a starving artist, I generally shy away from the expensive software and utilize free programs. Did you ever have to make up your mind?

I've been working--not as much as I should--on my new book this week and find myself standing at a crossroad.
Let me back up.
Before I write anything of magnitude, I compose several pages  (sometimes an outline [especially with historical fiction]) that detail the direction of the piece and highlight the major goals I want to achieve. I almost didn't write this blog post today.

I almost decided never to write again.

Writing has been number one in my life for the past two years but rather than giving it up, I'm assigning it a third, perhaps fourth, rank of importance.

As we celebrate our independence on this hot, humid Sunday, I think of the many people who risked their homes and their lives to seize the right to be free of tyranny. How are you?


I've been so busy this week editing books and redesigning a website, that I'm officially burned out. I've been averaging five hours of sleep each night and this morning when I woke up I realized I hadn't written anything for today's blog. I was irritable at breakfast, sick and tired of EVERYTHING, and ready to go back to bed.
Instead, I regrouped somewhat and took a shower. If you were with me last week, you'll remember I was in despair. I hadn't written a piece of fiction in so long, I was beginning to doubt myself and my abilities.

An object’s size can be measured in different ways with the aid of various tools.  Similar methods can be applied to assess the size of an idea. My first book, Dead Bird in the Weeds, was published on June 3, 2009.Dead Bird in the Weeds is a work of historical fiction recounting the 1798 rebellion in Ireland.  Set in Wexford, the story relates the tale of a courageous young woman named Aisling Doran who joins the revolutionary United Irishmen to wage war for liberty.
